Dr. Daniel Shalev, Principal Investigator

Assistant Professor of Medicine and of Medicine-in-Psychiatry

Dr. Daniel Shalev is a consultation-liaison psychiatrist and palliative care physician at Weill Cornell Medicine, where he serves as Assistant Professor of Medicine and Medicine-in-Psychiatry. He completed psychiatry residency and chief residency at Columbia University, followed by fellowships in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry (Columbia), Hospice and Palliative Medicine (Cornell/Columbia), and a T32 postdoctoral research fellowship in Behavioral Geriatrics at Weill Cornell.

Dr. Shalev directs the Mental Health and Palliative Care Program at Weill Cornell, which integrates psychiatric care into ambulatory palliative care services and serves as a hub for clinical innovation, training, and research. His NIH-funded research program focuses on improving mental health outcomes for people with serious medical illness, with an emphasis on behavioral health integration, workforce development, and care delivery innovation. He is Principal Investigator of a National Institute on Aging Beeson K76 award to adapt and evaluate a Collaborative Care model for treating depression and anxiety in older adults receiving palliative care.

Nationally, Dr. Shalev serves on the research committees of the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine and the Academy of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry. He is the Psychosocial Associate Editor of the Journal of Pain and Symptom Management, and co-directs the PalliPsych Collaborative, a national initiative focused on advancing the intersection of psychiatry and palliative care.
