WHO WE ARE
The Shalev Lab, also known as the BASIC Lab (Behavioral Health, Aging, and Serious Illness Care Lab), is an interdisciplinary team of researchers, clinicians, and trainees committed to advancing the integration of behavioral health into serious illness and palliative care. Our work brings together psychiatry, palliative medicine, implementation science, and digital health to address the psychological and emotional dimensions of serious illness.
We are passionate about improving care for patients and caregivers navigating complex medical conditions. Our team includes collaborators and mentees across medicine, psychology, public health, and data science, united by a shared commitment to human-centered, equitable, and research-informed care.
WHAT WE DO
We conduct health services and implementation research focused on bridging mental health and palliative care. Our studies explore how to enhance symptom management, emotional support, and clinical communication through innovative care models, digital tools, and stakeholder engagement.
We also prioritize training and mentorship—offering research experiences and skill-building opportunities for students and early-career professionals interested in behavioral health and serious illness care.
