Shalev Lab

The Shalev Lab, also known as the Behavioral health, Aging, and Serious Illness Care (BASIC) Lab is an interdisciplinary research team advancing behavioral health and palliative care for people with serious illness and aging-related conditions.
We focus on the human side of healthcare—mental health, symptom management, communication, and care delivery—especially for those facing complex medical needs.

Our research draws on implementation science, digital innovation, and mixed methods to improve how care is delivered and experienced.
We collaborate closely with patients, caregivers, and clinicians to develop tools, test new models, and generate evidence that leads to real-world change.

Based at Weill Cornell Medicine in New York City, our team brings together expertise from medicine, psychiatry, psychology, public health, and data science.
Together, we aim to translate research into compassionate, equitable, and patient-centered care.
